Why was this renovation needed?

1. Climate Control on Lower Level: Previously, in the winter a cold draft would enter through the front doors and in the summer the indoor air conditioning would escape every time the inner and outer doors were opened. The renovation offset the inner and outer doors and provided a small vestibule area which will reduce the impact on the indoor climate control.

2. Improve Accessibility: Prior to the renovation, patrons using mobility aids (wheelchairs or crutches) and parents with strollers frequently encountered problems negotiateing the double doorways. The new automatic doors (similar to those found in a supermarket) significantly improved accessibility for these patrons.

Did this project raise my taxes?

No. The project was included in the budget that was approved in April 2010 under 'capital outlay' and was funded from the Reserve Fund for Capital Projects. The 2010-2011 Budget accounted for this and still carried no increase in the tax levy paid by residents.
